Three generations of Elizabeths in a single family, as recorded in a group of manuscripts described below. Elizabeth Jeffry Read (1772-1855), the middle Elizabeth, was the wife of Massachusetts Congressman Nathan Read; her mother Elizabeth Bowditch Jeffry (1735-1797) was the daughter of Salem shipbuilder William Bowditch and the widow of Salem businessman William Jeffry (1737-1772); and her daughter Elizabeth H. Read (1793-1873).
