Forwarding the charter for the Pass Christ Institute [not present] to the organization, in a partially printed document, 11 3/8 x 8 ¾ inches, headed “Office of the Secretary of State, / Jackson, Mississippi,” illustrated from a cut of the American Eagle, 2 x 2 inches, and with the state seal affixed, completed and signed by George M. Govan as Secretary of State, June 25, 1888.
Govan (1840-1899) served as an officer in the Confederate army and in various post-war state political positions, including as Secretary of State, 1886-1896. The short-lived Trinity School for Girls (ca. 1886-1894) was originally known as the Pass Christian Institute. Some storage soiling and edgewear. More
