Small 4to. 12 pp., nine of detailed text (approximately 2000 words) and three of financial accounting for the surveying work, 1809-1824. As surveyor, Read was charged with building a road from the Belfast “gun-house” to the Little River Bridge and to maintain it thereafter; this was accomplished, and the town charged for labor and incidentals, over the period, 1809-1824. Read here takes exception to the committee report that criticized some of his accounting, with a carefully detailed defense, explanations of all expenses on the project. “The surveyor asked no favors, he asked only justice … [committee] confidence had been misplaced & they had been made unwilling instruments of doing manifest injustice.” Original cream self-wrappers, stitched.
