First edition. 24.5 cm. viii, 294 pp. Engraved frontis. portrait, plus two plates: a scenic lithograph by Pendleton of Lake Wanscopomac and a view of the Principal Building of Transylvania University, all with some foxing. Original muslin backed boards, printed paper label chipped, some wear to spine ends and joints. Some lower marginal staining, some signatures unopened, previous owner's signature on front endpaper. The chief source for Holley, president of Transylvania, who died a few months after leaving office, written by one of the most respected faculty members. Item #70747
