Philad. (PA): 1821. A partly printed receipt, completed in ink, 21 x 16 cm. for two items sold to a Mr. Rogers, a pair of dividers, 44 cents; and a one foot quarter's (?) scale, 87 cents. Signed by John McAllister & Son. A further item mentioned at the bottom of the billhead is "Bonycastles Mensuration " [evidently a reference to John Bonnycastle's book "An Introduction to Mensuration and Practical Geometry"]. Old fold lines, unevenly trimmed at right margin. Item #70725

John McAllister (1753-1830) arrived in Philadelphia from Scotland in 1775. His initial business was in whips and canes, but he added spectacles in 1796 and this trade became his major focus in later years, His son John joined him in business in 1807.
