Folding “Chart of the Gulf Stream” (from Florida to Long Island) slight tear where attached; folding plate of tables with some foxing. Last two pages and the folding plate have old tidelines. “Taken as a whole, Bache’s instructions [for the survey of the Gulf Stream] encompass physical, chemical, geological, and biological oceanography. He also touched on the interaction of meteorology and oceanography … the underlying philosophy of observation and parameters to be observed remains the same for today’s oceanographers as they were for Bache’s captains” (NOAA online).
