Des Moines, Iowa: Kenyon Printing & Mfg. Co., Map Makers, nd [1904 - 1906]. Red stiff paper wrappers, worn and rubbed, 14 x 8 cm. printed in black, housing a folding map, 40 x 54 cm., originally attached to wrappers, now laid in loose. Verso of front wrapper prints a time table for the Alfalfa Route of the Denver, Enid & Gulf R.R., the "quickest and best route to points in Indian Territory, Arkansas and Texas." The folding "Map of Oklahoma and Indian Ter." shows the line of the Denver Enid & Gulf R.R. in red; various counties and Indian Nations colored in pastel shades. Small inset map of the Northwestern portion of Oklahoma. Verso prints a guide to towns and general statistics including population, in two alphabetical sections, one for Oklahoma and one for Indian Territory. Old pencil notes from a previous owner in the margins of the township guide, some short separations along folds, neat old cello tape repairs and some bleeding from wrappers on verso. OCLC lists one copy at Texas A & M, with different text on the inner wrappers and ads for a land company. Item #70494

The first passenger train between Enid and Guthrie on the Denver, Enid & Gulf R.R. was put into operation in July 1904. Indian Territory was officially combined with Oklahoma Territory in 1906, helping to date this map.
