Single sheet, 43 x 37 cm., folded to 21 x 9 cm., 8 panels of text on recto, describing the government lands available, the counties already being settled, and the resources available to the new homesteader. "Rice's Township Map of Dakota and the Black Hills, 1878," on verso [copyright G. Jay Rice, 1876], with shaded lines parallel with the road representing the land grants, and townships and parts of townships colored in pink representing localities in which the R.R. Co. has sold all its lands. Placement of several Indian agencies are shown, as is Gen. Custer's trail through the Black Hills. A few short separations along folds, else a very good copy. OCLC lists Yale and Wisconsin Historical Soc. as having copies of an 1876 edition, with 4,500,000 acres for sale. Item #70493
