NY: J. C. Riker, nd [ca. 1840s or 1850s]. Hand-colored engraved title page, 54 leaves of cream or blue leaves, three hand-colored floral engraved plates. This example includes 28 signed sentiments, 1855-1857, almost all in verse, from a couplet to two pages, all addressed to Milly or Millie, several adding “Pekin, Illinois” to their signature or initials; five additional leaves with 45 signatures, some with very brief salutations, most in other Illinois towns, a few in St. Louis. OCLC locates a number of editions or issues, 1841-1850s, with 48 to 58 leaves, and either three or five plates. Publisher’s embossed leather binding (rubbed, spine ends chipped); lacking all endpapers to the title page, some staining and foxing. Item #70207
