Closed tear across the front wrapper, chipping and general soiling to wrappers. The American edition of Eliza Cook's poems, originally issued in London by Mr. Tilt in 1840, along with many other which "have since been written." From pp. 3 - 66 is printed "Melaia, and other poems" by Eliza Cook. From pp. 67 - 80, a selection of poems, "Silent Love, And Other Poems, Illustrative of That Feeling of the Heart," edited by Robert Hamilton, is printed. This group contains poems by James Wilson (author of "Silent Love"), along with short poems by Shelley, Byron, Coleridge among others, contemporary and earlier. The publisher lists a number of publications of "Standard and Useful Works Recently Published," on the back wrapper. We find no listings for this American magazine. Despite the list on the rear wrapper, this publisher is listed only with a family member doing directories of Brooklyn and a few others; the printer only for items done in 1852 or 1854 on OCLC.
