Ownership signature “Jno. B. Adger” at head of front wrapper; Adger (1810-1899), a Charleston native, served as a missionary in Turkey, translated the Bible and other religious text into local languages, helped found and was the original minister at Zion Presbyterian Church for “free and non-free” Blacks in 1849, and served as a professor at Columbia Theological Seminary after the Civil War (cf. Wikipedia). Original printed pink wrappers (a little wear along spine). Very good copy only of a scarce imprint. Item #69933
