Richmond, VA: James G. Watkins [Lith of Ch. I. Ludwig, Richmond], c1895. Broadside facsimile, 17 x 10 1/8 inches, of Davis’s April, 1867 bail bond, 20 guarantors (among them Horace Greeley, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and Gerit Smith) pledging $5000 each, guaranteeing his presence for trial in Richmond, then following November; facsimile signatures of Davis, the clerk, and the 20 guarantors below the text. Davis remained under indictment for treason until President Johnson’s Christmas, 1868 general pardon and his case never went to trial. Some spotting, old fold lines, but very good (accompanied by the original printed mailing envelope for the broadside, very worn). Item #69135
