Musical notation for songs, primarily popular music of the period, as recorded by Snow in an exercise book in the early 1820s.

Folio. (36) pp. [including pages laid down inside wrappers], all musical notation, seven long staves to the page, usually a portion of several songs per page. Among the titles are “Lady Bartlett’s Whim,” “The Boston Cadets March,” ”Hail to the Chieftain,” “Blue Eyes Mary,” “Emperor Alexanders Waltz,” “March in the Battle of Prague,” “Jefferson’s Hornpipe,” “The President,” and many others, especially waltzes, reels, and marches. Ownership signature “Charles Snow, 1822” on verso of front wrapper. Snow (1803-1884), a native of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, graduated from Yale with a medical degree and moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he joined a brother already established in trade there; the two and other family members successfully operated the business for decades, until he retired to manage his estate.
