SHRINE PROCESSION AT NIKKO TEMPLE, JAPAN. [Caption title below image]

[Yokohama, Japan]: With compliments of Toyo Kaisha (Oriental S. S. Co.), San Francisco-Hongkong Line via Japan (Printed by Seibido, Tokio Japan), nd [ca. 1920]. Color lithograph print, 19 x 28 ½ inches on a larger sheet (21 ¾ x 31 inches), picturing the richly decorated temple set among trees, with the procession proceeding down the steps from the main building and across the front of the large compound. The annual ritual procession at the Toshugo Shrine in Nikko, Japan, pays homage to Tokugawa Leyasu (1543-1616) who united Japan in the early 17th century; the Oriental Steam Ship Company was a major line for Pacific travel in the early decades of the 20th-century. Some soiling and old light tidelines in margins, but a very good example, the colors still vivid. Very good. Item #68614
