SETTLING AN ACCOUNT, in an autograph note, signed by Conner (as “Porter & Conner”) on his business letterhead, March 23, 1871, to “Mssrs. Simons & Simons.”

4to. One-page, approximately 35 words, in part: “In re Annie J. Laurens & W. J. Ball we prefer that the Representatives … be made parties to the proceedings”; with docketing verso. Conner began the war as a captain in the Hampton Legion, then commanded the 22nd NC Infantry from Seven Pines through the Battle of the Wilderness, before taking command of Kershaw’s Brigade; he was seriously wounded at Cedar Creek, necessitating a leg amputation. Following the war, Conner resumed his law practice and served as South Carolina Attorney General, 1876-1877. Published posthumously in 1933, his book Letters of General James Conner, C.S.A. is rare and much sought. Light stain at central fold, old fold lines. Very good. Item #68504
