Prints General Orders appointing officers to various posts in the command of the “Post of Charleston,” an editorial on “The Prospect” for the city under Union control (“We are not of the class who believe that no more good can ever come from the city of Charleston … a brilliant future awaits us”), other general orders issued for the city (some relating to possession of alcohol or firearms), news notes, and advertisement (none for runaway enslaved persons or auctions for same). “On Feb. 21, 1865, Charleston was occupied by U. S. forces, and ownership of the Daily Courier was transferred, by order of the commanding officer, to George Whittemore and G. W. Johnson who replaced the Confederate editor A. S. Willington” (OCLC). Pencil ownership signature “G.W. Morton / U.S.S. Juniata” at head of title. A scarce issue of the Courier, issued during the first week of Union occupation. Very good. Item #68495
