One of two 1852 printings. 8vo. 32 pp. A tour of the United States by deposed Hungarian leader Louis Kossuth sparked a debate over Washington’s admonition against intervening in the affairs of other countries. Bell (1796-1869) served in the U.S. House of Representatives, 1827-1841, and in the U.S. Senate, 1847-1859; he ran for President of the U.S. on the Constitutional Union ticket in 1860, winning the electoral votes of Tennessee, Kentucky, and Virginia. Disbound pamphlet (removed from a pamphlet volume, with binding residue along spine). Text with some marginal ink marks and one addition, else very good. Item #68181
