FRANKLIN AT THE COURT OF FRANCE, 1778

Philadelphia: Engraved by W.O. Geller of London after the painting by Baron Jolly of Brussels. Published by William Jay, Charles Hardenberg and William H. Emerson. 1853. 79 x 104 cm Mezzotint with handcoloring, depicts Benjamin Franklin in a simple Quaker suit set against the finery of the French Court. Some chipping and a few short, closed tears along margins, professionally cleaned and mounted to paper backing. A nice image. The treaty of alliance here celebrated was signed on February 6, 1778. The alliance would provide military support during the American Revolution which was absolutely critical to its success. Item #68165
