Foxing and old staining to some of the rear pages, at gutters. Frontis., plus engravings and woodcuts. With two printed slips laid in: one a description for the plate at p. 257; and one an Advertisement, signed in type at the bottom by N.R. Smith, to subscribers advising them of the superiority of the work compared to what was promised. [The advertisement mentions the binding: "In regard to binding we said nothing; we should not have been under obligation, therefore, to furnish the books otherwise than in boards...." This copy does not provide an example]. The AAS copy has the slip for p. 257, but not the Advertisement. Moderate staining. Contemporary ownership signature of James Gerry M.D. Gerry was born near Rising Sun, Maryland. He graduated from West Nottingham Academy and studied medicine at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, Maryland. Smith was Professor of Surgery at University of Maryland. Item #68114
