SUBSCRIBING TO A PROJECT TO REPAIR A LOCAL BRIDGE IN HIGHLAND COUNTY (?), OHIO, as recorded in a 1821 manuscript list (32 x 7 ½ inches) of 60 residents (at least two lists have been joined together), signed by each, and with columns showing how each has paid his share (“Days in Labor,” “Gals Whiskey,” “Lb Flower [i.e., flour],” “Lb Pork,” “Bush Corn,” “3/4 inch plank or timber,” or “$”); most paid with some days of labor and 50 cents to $3. Several of the names have notes concerning accommodations made for payment. “We the subscribers do agree to pay the sums annexed to our Names to the L. M. B. Company or order for the liberty of crossing the Bridge for one year from the 9th day of April 1822, including what is now Due for crossing the Bridge for the Time past which may be paid in Labour or materials if performed at the time when called for.”
