Allen (1836-1913) was serving as Superintendent of the Kentucky Military Institute in Farmdale, Kentucky (established by his father in the 1840s) at the time of publication; he studied at KMI and the U. of Louisville, served as a field officer in the 17th Texas Infantry during the Civil War, and replaced his father as KMI superintendent. OCLC locates two copies (Kentucky Wesleyan, Oberlin). Original printed light green wrappers (corners with small chips, not affecting text). Very good. Item #67703
