MAN IN GENESIS AND IN GEOLOGY: Or, the Biblical Account of Man's Creation, Tested by Scientific Theories of His Origin and Antiquity.

New York: Samuel R. Wells, Publisher, No. 389 Broadway, 1870. First edition. 12mo. 149 pp., plus ad leaf. Original brown cloth, spine faded; some water spots on front cover. A Congregational minister, Thompson was a facile writer, producing a large number of books and pamphlets (see DAB). Here he takes a broad-minded view of science--the book is dedicated to James D. Dana--while refusing to accept the doctrine of evolution. Acknowledging degrees of complexity in the development of life forms, Thompson is unwilling to conclude that this demonstrates the existence of any natural law. Item #67367
