THE FARMER'S, MECHANIC'S, MANUFACTURER'S AND SPOTSMAN'S MAGAZINE

New York [NY]: Printed by Vanderpool & Cole, corner of Pearl & Beekman streets, 1826-27. Volume 1, numbers 1-12 [all published]. 22 cm. vii, (1), 472pp. Issued monthly from March 1826 to February 1827, gathered into a single volume with index and title page. Worn period leather, with gilt stamped red morocco spine label, front joint starting. Well represented on OCLC. Mott does not mention this title though he lists Houston as editor of a literary magazine during the same period. "Only twelve volumes (vol. I) of this monthly periodical were published. Although the farmer or rural mechanic had much more to read in the magazine than the sportsman, the racehorses American Eclipse and Duroc were portrayed on two of the three engraved plates in Vol. I ..."--Podeschi. This copy has only the two horse plates, apparently missing a bank-note engraving, supposed to have been at page 62. A few other in text illustrations; defect to one leaf of text (pp. 345-6) affecting a few words, scattered foxing. Item #67334
