Folding “Chart of the Gulf Stream” (from Florida to Long Island), folding plate of tables. “Taken as a whole, Bache’s instructions [for the survey of the Gulf Stream] encompass physical, chemical, geological, and biological oceanography. He also touched on the interaction of meteorology and oceanography … the underlying philosophy of observation and parameters to be observed remains the same for today’s oceanographers as they were for Bache’s captains” (NOAA online). OCLC locates nine copies, none in southern research institutions. Original plain blue wrappers (chipped and worn, manuscript author/title on front wrapper); ex-Franklin Institute, with its full range of markings. Good copy. Item #67181
