MARRIAGE LICENSE. STATE OF TEXAS. COUNTY OF PARKER.

[St. Louis, MO?]: Gast, nd [1894]. Lithograph [?] printing of a marriage license, partly printed, completed in manuscript for James M. Cretsinger and Reutha Vance, May 9, 1894, solemnizing their rites of matrimony, and signed by W.C. McFall, clerk of the county court of Parker County, and by J.E. Hodges, Deputy. Also signed by John W. Squyres, Justice of the Peace, who appends a note in the right margin: "This is the (219?) couple I have married." Docketed on verso. Single sheet, 28 x 21 cm., folded, affixed with the gold seal of the County Court of Parker County, Texas. Some wear and edge chipping at folds, a somewhat tender copy. Printed in various sizes and styles of type. Small circular vignette of a couple at a marriage ceremony, in front of a minister and surrounded by guests, in the upper third of the page. Item #67131

At the bottom of the marriage license form is printed "Sold by Gast." Presumably this is the Gast Bank Note & Lithographing Co., operating in St. Louis between 1887 and 1975, at various locations. The company was started by the brothers August and Leopold Gast who had immigrated from Germany in 1848.
