MENTIONING TWO PROMISSORY NOTES ON A MORTGAGE, SIGNED BY WALLACE & DELLA BANBURY, IN A SHORT PENCIL NOTE TO THE PEOPLES BANK OF PRATT, KANSAS, FROM DR. L.W. CLARK, CARTERVILLE, MISSOURI, DATED SEPT. 11, 1906.

Carterville, MO: 190[6]. Single sheet of letterhead for "Dr. L.W. Clark & Sons, Farms, Ranches, Wild Land, Fruit and Mineral Land In Southwest Missouri, Southeast Kansas, Northwest Arkansas and Texas." L.W. Clark's short note, in pencil, approx. 40 words, states that he is enclosing two promissory notes [not present here] for $650 each which were signed by Wallace C. & Della M. Banbury. Peoples Bank of Pratt, Kansas, after receipt of the principal and interest of $1060.30, were to deliver papers to the Banburys and send Clark a draft for the amount. Signed in pencil by Clark. A few mathematical calculations occupy space on the lower corner of the letterhead. On the verso are printed three columns of ads for leading real estate dealers in California, Kentucky, Kansas, Arkansas, Iowa, Texas, Montana, South Dakota, etc. One ad is for Clark's firm in Carterville: "For Farms or Mineral Lands in the Joplin District of Missouri write to Dr. L.W. Clark & Sons...." Old fold lines, one small pinhole, else very good. Item #67106

Carterville, Missouri was incorporated in 1882, and was one of several lead-mining camps in the area. In the first decade of the 20th century, the population was approximately 4500 people.
