Wolff’s 1820s journey, a search for the Lost Tribes of Israel, took him to Anatolia, Armenia Afghanistan, Kashmir, Calcutta, Madra, Bombay, Egypt, and Malta; in the 1830s he visited Ethiopia, Jeddah, Yeman, and Bombay; his letters are rich in commentary on Islam.
