First edition. 8vo. 2 volumes: viii, 436; ii, 386 pp. With the postscript at the end of volume two along with a folded tipped-in 4to manuscript index identifying “characters” who appear in the text (a number of unnamed characters are identified in pencil in the margins, e.g., Hannah More and Mrs. Piozzi). Beloe (1756-1817) was an English divine and author of numerous translations and Anecdotes of Literature and Scarce Books (1806-1812), and keeper of printed books at the British Library, 1803-1806; volume two contains descriptions of bookshops and booksellers of his time (pp. 240-282). Somewhat later half-calf and marbled boards and edges, labels and gilt rules between raised bands on spines. Very good. Item #66955
