Marion, AL: Mayor’s office, September 28, 1881. Printed handbill, 8 x 5 5/8 inches, the title in large bold capitals. To observe a day or mourning for the late President James A. Garfield, Mayor Huey requests that businesses close, “the people” assemble for a Memorial Service, and “that the bells of the city be tolled from 2 to 2:30 p.m.” Garfield had died a week earlier after lingering since July 2 from the effects of an assassin’s bullet. Apparently not recorded on OCLC. Professionally backed with paper. Very good. Item #66858

Price: $300.00
