The name Boyd which appears on the front cover and spine of this volume would seem to be John Boyd (1796-1873). Boyd, born in Tennessee, moved to Texas with his wife and family in the fall of 1835, settling in Sabine County. Boyd represented Sabine County in the House of the Republic of Texas congress from 1836-38. He moved to Robertson County in 1845, and then to Limestone County. There he put in a claim to land near the Tehuacana Hills. He later gave some 1100 acres and a monetary donation to help found Trinity University at Tehuacana. [see his brief biography in the Handbook of Texas online] His Tennessee origins might explain the presence of the Tennessee imprints in this collection.
