Morison, principal and proprietor of the Academy, states the object and design of the school to be "an Institution wherein youth could be thoroughly educated on Christian principles, and where their morals could be preserved from the dangers of evil associations." Classes were offered in English, Latin, Greek, Mathematics, Philosophy, Natural Philosophy, etc. Lectures for the course year by Thomas Everett, Charles Girard, and Wm. Chauncey Langdon were planned. Students were prepared to enter the business world or the learned professions, according to an ad for the school in the January 5, 1852 issue of the Daily American Telegraph.
