Weller, with colored lines showing the itinerary and the part of the route traveled on foot. Bound in 3/4 leather and brown cloth, rebacked, with original spine laid down; corners repaired at tips, else very good. This copy inscribed on the half-title in December 1856 by William Longman to Mrs. Charles Dickens. William Longman (1813-1877) was a member of the multi-generation British publishing family which had established itself in the 18th century. Catherine Dickens (1815-1879) was the wife of Charles Dickens, and the author of a book on domestic management entitled "What Shall We Have for Dinner?" in 1851, under the pseudonym Lady Maria Clutterbuck.
