Ring-binder notebook, bound in 3/4 red leather and grey cloth boards. Two page index in ink, followed by typescript corporate records. 28 cm. (2), [67] pp., each section separated by stiff grey paperwraps with typescript titles and imprint of the New Jersey Registration & Trust Company, East Orange, New Jersey. Also bound in are examples of stock certificates, ballots for directors and officers of the corporation, postcards of copyright registration (partly printed, completed in manuscript), etc. Occasional pencil notes. All documents and records in very good condition.
The Studio Products Corporation was incorporated in the state of Delaware "to carry on a general advertising business, and advertising and sales service in all its branches...." by the Delaware Registration Trust Company on June 30, 1928. Included here are the transfers of subscription from the members of the Trust Company to the new board of directors and officers of the Corporation in East Orange, New Jersey, Harry Lewis Raul, Josephine G. Raul, and Charles F. Mapletoft, on payment of $1 each. The corporation then authorized "by an issue of its capital stock" the purchase of several works of art produced by Harry L. Raul "as necessary for the business of the Company and to carry out its contemplated objects." Copyright records for the works purchased follow, including Raul's register of his sculptures "The Boy Franklin," "College Football Player," and "Face of Lincoln," on three postcards, each with the blindstamp of the Librarian of Congress Copyright Office. Harry Lewis Raul (1883-1960) was born in Easton, Pennsylvania, and briefly attended Lafayette College in 1905 before turning to the study of sculpture in New York and Philadelphia. Although he had other occupations, working at Bethlehem Steel and the Taylor-Wharton Company in Easton, he maintained a studio in his home town and worked as a free-lance sculptor for a number of years. The three pieces mentioned in these corporate papers were created by him between 1914 and 1928. In 1939 Raul moved to Washington, DC and took a postion as museum curator at the Interior Department.
