Inscribed to Theodore Gill with the authors respects. Some staining (smoke and old tidelines) on title page and edges of some pages. Penciled in on flyleaf is the name Lowdermilk which was a historic Washington, DC antiquarian bookstore. Lea was a conchologist, geologist, and a publisher. This was his first paper. Gill to whom it is inscribed was an American ichthyologist, mammalogist, malacologist and librarian who taught zoology at George Washington. A nice association between early American scientists.
