Around 1880, the state legislature funded two normal schools in eastern North Carolina to train African-American teachers, this one, which moved to Elizabeth City in 1903 (now Elizabeth City State University), the other in Fayetteville (now Fayetteville State University). Includes lists of faculty, students (with hometowns), former students, courses of study, testimonials, and books in the library (12 titles). Apparently not recorded on OCLC. Original printed green wrappers (spine eroded, rubbed, soiled, edges a little chipped); library accession number on front wrapper, no other markings (part of a large deaccession from Western Reserve).
