Illustrated paper wrappers. 26 x 21 cm. 7, [1] pp. Wrappers soiled, a few tears and chips, sign of sticker removed from upper right corner of front wrapper. The first separate printing in book form of the famous poem and the first edition printed with the last line changed to "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night." Darley's illustrations to this edition would become the standard American images of Santa Claus. This copy follows the AAS copy: Variant issues noted; issue in hand bears a cover design signed by "N. Orr-Co." Illustration statement appears on one line. Another issue has an unsigned cover design surrounded by a frame of vines. The illustration statement is divided into two lines, the first line ending with "drawings." "Alvord, printer."--p. [2]. Corydon A. Alvord printed in New York between 1845 and 1873. The publishing firm headed by James G. Gregory issued titles in New York between 1859 and 1865. Wood-engraved illustrations printed in colored ink. Grolier: 100 AMERICAN: 52. In collected poems.
