Swearing to support the Constitution of the United States, in a partly printed document for Guilford County, North Carolina, completed in manuscript and signed by the oath taker Mathew Hedgcock of Guilford County, 15 September, 1865; also signed by Justices of the Peace William A. Caldwell and Joseph A. Houston.

This oath of amnesty includes a passage regarding African Americans: “[I will] abide by and faithfully support all laws and proclamations which have been made during the existing rebellion with reference to the emancipation of slaves.” Old folds, but very good. Item #66041
