The Atlanta Historical Bulletin [later The Atlanta Historical Journal]

Atlanta, GA: Atlanta Historical Society, 1927. Complete run of this periodical under these two names, No. 1., September, 1927 – Volume XXX, Nos. 3-4, Winter, 1986-1987 (Bulletin: 79 issues and six separately published indexes; Journal: 33 issues; in 1987 the title of the publication was changed to Atlanta History which ceased publication in 2006; the first issue under that title is included with this run). 8vo and 4to. 15 to 347 pp. (most issues 50 to 125 pp.). Illustrated from photographs, plates (some folding), facsimiles, portraits, maps, etc. Included in this run are the large folding map, “Kaufman’s Map of the Borough of Atlanta and Adjacent Territory,“ by I. U. Kaufman (Atlanta, 1934; 37 x 44 inches, with historical features keyed to the text of No. 8, Sept. 1934, with which it was published) and the “In Memoriam Margaret Mitchell” issue of May, 1950. Articles in the earliest editions featured popular essays on political leaders, military officers, churches, and schools; reminiscences of 19th century Atlanta; and a selection of reports on the population of Fulton and DeKalb counties. In later years, the Journal focused on more scholarly articles relating to race, gender, and politics” (Atlanta History Center online). Kaufman’s map (some small breaks at corner folds, one tear at fold) is apparently not catalogued separately on OCLC. Original printed and illustrated wrappers. A very good, complete run of this historical periodical under its first two titles. Individual issues are common in trade, but complete early runs such as this are scarce. Item #65926
