Atkinson, a native of Liberty County, read law, practiced, and became a judge in Camden County following his graduation from the university. Prints a biographical sketch, Atkinson’s 1839 valedictory address at the University of Georgia, and a long letter from Atkinson to Alexander Stephens on the subject of slavery, rationalizing the institution as recognized and permitted by God. OCLC locates five copies (Birmingham/Jefferson Co. Public, Atlanta History Center, Georgia, Wesleyan, Duke, Wake Forest). Original stiff printed cream wrappers, stapled.
