Handsome edition of Orwell's towering dystopian novel, reproducing to scale the only extant manuscript for any of Orwell's works. The manuscript originated with Orwell's widow, who offered it to a charity auction, and ultimately ended up in the vault in the rare book room of Scribner's Bookstore in New York, where it was acquired by bookseller and publisher Dan Siegel, who offers a lengthy preface to this edition. With an introduction and notes by professor and Orwell scholar Peter Davison, who transcribed the manuscript. FENWICK A.12.M8; LEWIS, p.139; BOOKER, pp.208-213. Item #65912
