Item #65800 LEDGER OF ACCOUNTS, 1819-1821. Samuel B. KING.
LEDGER OF ACCOUNTS, 1819-1821

LEDGER OF ACCOUNTS, 1819-1821

Boston, (MA): 1819-21. Folio ledger (33 cm). 45 pages of manuscript accounts [other leaves unused]. Samuel Bass King (1788-1864) eventually became cashier and then president of the first Taunton Bank; just after the period covered in this ledger (1823), he was serving as secretary of Boston’s Union Insurance Company and it’s possible that this ledger served its accounts. The ledger opens “I have on hand this day in cash 4113.33,” followed by a long list of notes payable on demand and a notation for 125 shares in the Bank of Canada; there are many other transactions with the Bank of Canada and the Taunton Bank. Contemporary sheep-backed marbled boards (rubbed, spine rubbed and worn, front joint cracked through), leather spine label, gilt-stamped “Waste / & / Journal.” Internal hinge cracked, signature pulled, still a good copy. Price: $500.00
