Period inscription on front wrapper: William C. Carter from J. M [?] [illeg.]. Dr. Mussey (1780-1866), a graduate of Dartmouth, was a member of the medical faculty at the school from 1814-1838, then professor of surgery at Ohio Medical College for 15 years (1838-1852), and then at Miami Medical College in Cincinnati until his retirement in 1857.
