Hay, a Virginia jurist, was appointed by Jefferson to be U.S. Attorney for Virginia, in which capacity he conducted the unsuccessful prosecution of Aaron Burr for treason. Ownership signature on title page of Jona[than] Russell, probably the American diplomat who was serving as Pres. Madison's Charge d'Affaires to England when the War of 1812 broke out. Item #65553
