INQUIRIES AFTER VARIOUS TAXIDERMY SUPPLIES AND SERVICES, as recorded in a file of seven autograph letters and notes (five of them on illustrated letterheads),

1911-1920, from as many taxidermists, seeking from or offering to the firm of H.J. Lesser and Son (Later Geo. H. Lesser), a taxidermist and taxidermy supply company located in Johnstown, N.Y., various materials and services. VP: 1911-1920. The correspondence is from (1) R.A. Bonnell / Taxidermist (White House Station, N.J.) asking for a moose foot and a price list; (2) U.S. Pheasantry (Poughkeepsie, N.Y) offering six blue quail, Ring Neck cocks, and silver pheasants; (3) H.C. Batcheller & Co. / Furriers (Gloversville, N.Y.) offering the services of a newly hired German “expert Taxidermist skin dresser"; (4) Omaha Robe and Tanning Co. / Tanners Furriers and Dyers (South Omaha, NB) explaining their need of “some small scalps for small elk heads and deer”; (5) James P. Babbitt / Wholesale and Retail Dealer in Taxidermists’ Supplies of All Kinds (Taunton, MA) forwarding payment for a recent shipment; (6) P.O. Fryklund / Taxidermist (Badger, MN) sending news that he is out of “extra scalps for deer” and offering the name of a possible supplier; and (7) Edwin Dixon / Expert Taxidermist (Unionville, Ontario) replying to a claim for damaged goods, suggesting that Lesser’s complaint would be with the express company that handled the shipment. The Lessers advertised regularly in “Hunter, Trader, and Trapper,” “Forest and Stream,” and “Fur, Fish, and Game” through the 1910s. Some wear, but a very good lot. Seven sheets of business letterhead, 4to or 8vo, each folded for mailing. (11278). Item #65529
