Ownership signature of Heyward Cutting on the front endpaper and with his pencil markings in the rear section, noting his three recorded trophies of American brown bears, taken in Alaska in 1917; Cutting (1890-1926), from a well-to-do New York family, earned an early reputation as an explorer and sportsman, but was killed in an automobile crash at 35.
