MARSDEN'S AMERICAN FIELD SPORTS. No. 4. Woodcock Shooting - Chasse Aux Becasses - Seek Dead [caption title]

New York: entered according to Act of Congress... by M. Marsden, 1857. Color lithograph, 51 x 66 cm.; image size 44 x 60 cm. Painted by [Theodore] Marsden. Lithographed by H. Clerget & LaFosse. Unevenly toned, especially at margins, small stain at lower margin, short cracks at side margins, one just touching the image, the other extending into the background of the print has been crudely repaired on verso with paper tape. Unevenly trimmed along the bottom edge, slightly affecting part of the caption title, and taking some publication information. The image shows two hunters in a forest, a hunting dog in the foreground guarding a downed woodcock. This print is one of a series of four field sporting prints Theodore Marsden painted in 1857.
