THE TROOPER COMMANDER / [followed by four paragraphs of text and signatures of 45 members of a training troop, a sergeant, a corporal and 43 privates divided into six squads (the first squad had eight members) in three columns.

NP: The troop, nd [1943?]. Printed broadside, 22 x 14 inches, the caption title in large bold type. A printed tribute from a troop of World War II army trainees to their commander, “Lieutenant Ketcham”: [Following three long paragraphs of boilerplate concerning the required character needs of “the boss”] “He has been gifted with a personality that makes him a real soldier and a true leader of men … I daresay that every one of his troopers entrusted to his care regard him with deep respect, loyalty and affection. We all wish, with heartfelt sincerity, the best there is in life for this Troop Commander who is always ‘on the bit’ for us and who may always depend on us for that extra effort or something so aptly illustrated on the parade ground yesterday. Good luck and good health to Lieutenant Ketcham of Troop D.” One of the signing privates here, Sam D. Mamula, was killed in action on the Salm River in Germany in January, 1945. We have not been able to locate another copy. Folded, several signatures smudged, but very good. Item #65458
