Scattered foxing, shallow chipping along outer page margins, a few small holes at fold lines in final two leaves and one tear across the last leaf repaired with Japanese paper (not affecting text).
Sam Houston (1793-1863) was the first President of the Republic of Texas, elected to the U.S. Senate when Texas became a state, "became an advocate of the principles of the Know-Nothing party [and] in 1856 he was widely mentioned as a possible presidential candidate on that ticket." [see his biography in the Handbook of Texas (Austin: 1986), vol. 1, pp.845-7]. Item #65005
