Providence, (RI): Rhode Island Printing Co., 1875. First edition. Small 4to (19 cm.). 52 pp. Interleaved with 30 photographs (albumen silver prints) mounted on thick card stock. The photographs are scenic views and activities at the Mohonk House and its environs; includes brief descriptions of fishing and boating activities. Lake Mohonk lies at the southern edge of the Catskills in Ulster County; twins Albert and Alfred Smiley bought a tavern and 280 acres of land on the lake in 1869, establishing a retreat there that has survived to the present. It was used for various reform conferences in the late 19th century, Albert Smiley hosting annual meetings toward the betterment of life for Native Americans for several decades. The resort boasts almost 100 miles of hiking trails and ice skating in winter. Cover title: "Lake Mohonk Guide Book." Relatively uncommon, OCLC locates 17 copies (with nine in New York).
