Reid, the author of a famous work on the Mexican War, "The Scouting Expeditions of McCulloch's Texas Rangers," was a member of counsel and reported the work as author. On the title page is an ink presentation inscription by him to a Maryland congressman. Reid's father was the commander of the brig of war, Gen. Armstrong, and much honored for the service his ship provided Jackson before the Battle of New Orleans. See DAB for an account of this case which dragged on throughout the 19th century. SABIN 69090.
